- Xiaomi YU7 GT clocked a lap time of 7:34.931 minutes at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, beating the previous record held by the Audi RS Q8 Performance.
- The high-performance SUV, boasting 990 horsepower, is scheduled to officially launch in China on May 21.

Xiaomi's (HKEX: 1810) electric vehicle unit Xiaomi EV announced Monday that its upcoming high-performance SUV, the YU7 GT, has set a new lap record at Germany's renowned Nürburgring Nordschleife track.
Driven by Xiaomi's chief test driver Ren Zhoucan, the YU7 GT test vehicle completed the lap in 7 minutes and 34.931 seconds, marking a significant breakthrough for Chinese automotive brands in this arena.
The challenge shattered the historical lap record for production SUVs at the track and made Ren the first Chinese professional driver to receive an official Nürburgring lap certification.
Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun highly praised the achievement, acknowledging the immense difficulty of posting an ideal time on the challenging circuit due to the higher center of gravity typical of SUVs.
Previously, the fastest SUV on the Nürburgring Nordschleife was the Audi RS Q8 Performance with a time of 7:36.698 minutes, followed by the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT at 7:38.925 minutes.
Xiaomi plans to hold an official launch event on May 21 to rolled out the highly anticipated pure-blood GT model, with the event scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm Beijing time.
The YU7 GT is equipped with a dual-motor system delivering a maximum power of 738 kilowatts, translating to a staggering 990 horsepower of output, according to previously released information.
The model features carbon-ceramic brake discs and was jointly tuned by Chinese and European experts, aiming to strike a balance between cornering stability and premium driving dynamics.
The new model boasts a top speed of 300 kilometers per hour and a pure electric range of 705 kilometers under CLTC conditions, targeting consumers who pursue extreme performance and long-distance comfort.
The high-performance variant is expected to be priced around 400,000 yuan ($58,810), significantly higher than the starting price of the standard YU7 model launched last year.
The standard YU7 was launched in June 2025 with a starting price of 253,500 yuan. The introduction of the new model is seen as a major step in Xiaomi's further push in the premium market segment.
To build momentum ahead of the launch, Xiaomi has deployed YU7 GT display vehicles across 268 stores in 82 Chinese cities, allowing potential customers to preview its new color options, including Crimson Red.
Although current showroom displays are limited to static exterior viewing, the company expects to open interior experiences and schedule test drives immediately following the launch event.
Xiaomi EV delivered 36,702 vehicles in April, representing a 28.40% year-on-year increase and a 71.18% jump from March, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
