Following the conclusion of the record-breaking Beijing Auto Show earlier this month, China's next major automotive industry event is about to kick off in the southern tech hub of Shenzhen.

The 2026 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show (Shenzhen Auto Show) will be held from May 29 to June 7 at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, with an overall exhibition area expected to reach 300,000 square meters, according to an announcement by the event's organizers on Thursday.

This scale is slightly smaller than the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, which officially closed on May 3 and set a global scale record with an exhibition area of 380,000 square meters.

Notably, the Beijing Auto Show and the Shanghai Auto Show are the only two auto shows in China held every two years. Other major auto shows, including the Shenzhen Auto Show, Chengdu Auto Show, and Guangzhou Auto Show, are held annually.

In addition to traditional static vehicle displays, this year's Shenzhen Auto Show is shifting the industry's focus toward cultivating and promoting a more interactive local car culture.

A large-scale exclusive car enthusiast gathering will take place on May 30 in a 3,000 square meter dedicated area outside Hall 2 of the exhibition center.

This one-day-only gathering will showcase over 100 vehicles and feature top domestic automotive media key opinion leaders interacting with car enthusiasts on-site.

The event organizers aim to break the boundaries of traditional auto shows by fostering community interaction and immersive experiences, thereby transforming the simple act of car viewing into a carnival of car culture and gathering.

Domestic automakers have already begun warming up for the auto show.

Yangwang, the premium luxury brand under Shenzhen-based BYD (HKEX: 1211), announced on Thursday that it will bring its latest 2026 model lineup to the upcoming auto show.

The company is currently actively recruiting consumers through its official channels to participate in exploring the exhibition, aiming to provide them with an in-depth experience of its technology and luxury models.

The 10-day Beijing Auto Show, held from April 24 to May 3, attracted 1.28 million domestic and overseas visitors over the ten days.

The Beijing Auto Show exhibited a total of 1,451 vehicles across two venues, a massive lineup that included 181 premiere vehicles and 71 concept cars.

Intelligence and electrification technologies became the core highlights of the auto show, with numerous automakers showcasing new models integrated with large AI (artificial intelligence) models.

Yangwang U9 Xtreme becomes the most expensive model sold at this year's Beijing Auto Show, with a price tag exceeding 20 million yuan ($2.9 million).
