Linghui, a new brand created by BYD specifically for the mobility market, announced Thursday that its flagship model targeting business travel, the Linghui e9, will soon be officially launched.

Positioned as a "flash-charging business C-class sedan," the battery electric vehicle (BEV) will feature ultra-fast energy replenishment and smart experiences as its main selling points, according to Linghui.

This means the electric sedan will be equipped with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and the latest flash-charging technology, supporting a near-full charge in just nine minutes.

The Linghui e9 is the second model from the BYD sub-brand, following the Linghui e7 which hit the market earlier this month.

The Linghui e9 is primarily based on BYD's existing Han sedan platform, with minor tweaks to its exterior details to better suit the specific needs of commercial operations.

The model measures nearly 5 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2,920 millimeters. It will offer two single-motor versions of 135 kilowatts and 150 kW, according to regulatory filings from January.

The car's driving range comes in two specifications: 535 kilometers and 605 kilometers. For context, the flash charging version of the Han EV, which went on sale Tuesday, has a starting price of 179,800 yuan ($26,290).

Establishing Linghui as an independent sub-brand is a significant strategic move for BYD, aimed at separating its massive ride-hailing business from its main brand.

As BYD actively explores and expands into the luxury car market, having a large number of the same models used for ride-hailing operations could potentially drag down its premium brand image.

Along with the e7 and e9, the Linghui brand has also previously filed for the e5 electric sedan and the M9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
