Volkswagen's Jetta brand has previewed an all-new concept vehicle, the Jetta X, marking a major push by the joint-venture automaker in its transition toward electrification.

The Jetta X concept will make its debut at a Volkswagen Group media night planned for April 21, according to a poster released by FAW-Volkswage on Friday.

The new vehicle is expected to be an SUV (sport utility vehicle) or crossover, the teaser image shows.

While specific powertrain details haven't been disclosed, it is expected to feature an electrified powertrain, potentially as a battery electric vehicle (BEV) or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).

The latest product teaser follows the commencement of operations for Jetta's new corporate entity in China.

On January 14, FAW-Volkswagen announced that the Jetta brand had established a new company in Chengdu, Sichuan province — FAW Volkswagen Jetta Automotive Technology Co Ltd — to compete in the Chinese market with greater autonomy.

Volkswagen, as the core strategic backer of the new company, will open its global research and development network and provide the Jetta brand with advanced electrified platforms as well as support for overseas business expansion.

The new company plans to launch five all-new models by 2028, four of which will be new energy vehicles (NEVs).

Jetta's medium-term goal is to achieve annual sales of 400,000 to 500,000 vehicles, according to a press release at the time.

FAW-Volkswagen Jetta's first NEV is expected to debut in the third quarter of this year and hit the market in the fourth quarter.

FAW Volkswagen Jetta commenced operations on Wednesday, granted greater market-oriented R&D autonomy and accelerated decision-making authority.
