William Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO), is visiting Europe following the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker's rollout of its premium compact car brand Firefly there about three months ago.

"I'm in Europe on business these days and am now preparing to drive Firefly from Amsterdam to Oslo -- a journey of about four hours," Li wrote on Weibo today.

"Firefly is such a pleasure to drive that everyone wants to be the driver -- I snagged the wheel first," he added.

Firefly officially entered the European market in August, with its first deliveries there taking place on August 14 in Norway and the Netherlands.

Nio formally launched the Firefly brand at Nio Day 2024 on December 21, 2024, positioning it to challenge Mini and Smart. The brand's namesake first model was launched in China on April 19.

Nio initially planned to launch Firefly in Europe first but shifted to a China-first rollout due to Europe's higher tariffs on Chinese EVs.

The company delivered a record 40,397 vehicles in October, with Firefly contributing 5,912 units -- marking the third consecutive month of record-breaking sales.

Since the start of this year, Firefly has accelerated its global market expansion through a national distributor model, with plans to enter six countries including Belgium, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, Portugal, and Greece, Nio announced on August 15.

Moving forward, Firefly would continue employing flexible strategies to achieve efficient market penetration globally, the company said.
