- Xpeng is working on a plan to reduce the cost of the G6, with a potential reduction of up to RMB 20,000 per vehicle, according to a local media report.
- Xpeng plans to begin production of a new SUV codenamed D03 at its new Wuhan factory in 2026, positioned similarly to the Mona M03.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) is reportedly repositioning its G6 SUV (sport utility vehicle) following the launch of the more powerful G7 SUV.
The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker is developing cost-cutting measures for the G6, with the current three variants potentially seeing a reduction in unit costs ranging from RMB 10,000 ($1,400) to RMB 20,000, according to a report by local media outlet AutoPix today.
The lower-cost G6, with the project code name changed from F30b to F30be, is expected to go into production in the fourth quarter of this year, according to the report.
Xpeng will replace some of the G6's parts suppliers without compromising quality, while the appearance and functionality will remain largely unchanged, according to the report.
The company aims to reduce the overall price of the G6 because the G7, which was launched earlier this month, has better specifications but overlaps with the G6 in terms of price, according to the report.
Xpeng launched the G7 on July 3, offering three variants with starting prices of RMB 195,800, RMB 205,800, and RMB 225,800.
The currently available 2025 G6 was launched on March 13 and also offers three options, with starting prices of RMB 176,800, RMB 186,800, and RMB 198,800.
The company also has another SUV, the G9, with three variants priced at RMB 248,800, RMB 258,800, and RMB 278,800, which are significantly higher than the G7.
Currently, the prices of the G6 and G7 are not significantly different, so the G6 will need to be repositioned after the launch of the G7, AutoPix says.
By next year, Xpeng's SUV lineup will include at least four models. In addition to the three existing models, it will produce a new model codenamed D03 at its Wuhan plant, according to the report.
The D03 will replicate the positioning of the Mona M03 in the SUV market, and all four of Xpeng's SUVs will have extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, the report says.
The Mona M03 originated from a project acquired by Xpeng from ride-hailing giant Didi and is Xpeng's lowest-priced model, with a starting price of RMB 119,800.
In January-June, the Mona M03 delivered 86,351 units, contributing 43.79 percent of Xpeng's deliveries during the same period, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
AutoPix's report is one of the few rare mentions of Xpeng's Wuhan factory in recent years.
On July 31, 2021, Xpeng announced the launch of a new factory project in Wuhan, central China's Hubei province, with a planned annual capacity of 100,000 vehicles.
However, with the rapid changes in the market environment, there has been no new progress on the new factory in the past few years.
Currently, Xpeng operates one factory in its headquarters city of Guangzhou and another in Zhaoqing city, both located in Guangdong province.
