Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has officially launched the G7, aiming to carve out a share of the electric SUV market currently dominated by Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y with its ultra-high smart driving computing power and competitive pricing.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker officially rolled out the G7 at an event today, marking its first all-new model of the year, with a starting price of RMB 195,800 ($27,320).

This price is lower than the RMB 235,800 starting price when the G7 began pre-sales on June 11, and is RMB 67,700, or 25.69 percent, lower than the Model Y's starting price of RMB 263,500 in China.

The G7 is a mid-size SUV with dimensions of 4,892 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

These dimensions are larger than those of the Model Y, which measures 4,797 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,624 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

The G7 is the first vehicle to be equipped with Xpeng's in-house developed Turing AI smart driving chip, offering a computing power of up to 2,250 TOPS, making it the EV model with the highest smart driving computing power to date.

With this computing power, the G7 will support VLA (Vision-Language-Action) + VLM (Vision-Language Models) large models, becoming the first AI car with L3 computing power, according to Xpeng.

The VLA large model enables the vehicle to have active thinking and rapid decision-making capabilities, capable of handling various driving scenarios, such as actively determining the optimal route in real-time.

The VLM large model redefines the next-generation intelligent cockpit, with AI computing power 26 times greater than current industry flagships, enabling proactive sensing and service provision.

The G7 Ultra variant is equipped with three Turing chips, two of which are used for smart driving and one for powering cockpit services.

The two Max variants are both equipped with two Nvidia Orin X chips, offering 508 TOPS computing power.

The G7 also features an AR-HUD head-up display system co-developed by Xpeng and Huawei, as well as an AI chassis with pre-view functionality.

The model is built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform and features lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs supporting a 5C charging rate.

The base model offers a CLTC range of 602 kilometers, while the other two variants provide a range of 702 kilometers, all capable of charging from 0 to 80 percent in 12 minutes.

The G7 comes standard with a rear-wheel-drive single motor, delivering a peak power of 218 kW and a peak torque of 450 Nm, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.

The SUV is expected to become another strong competitor to the Model Y, potentially putting Tesla under greater pressure in China's EV market.

Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) launched the YU7 electric SUV last week and received 200,000 firm orders within the first three minutes, making it the biggest threat to the Model Y.

For Xpeng, the G7 is expected to help it achieve higher sales volumes.

The company delivered 34,611 vehicles in June, bringing the first-half delivery total to 197,189 units, a year-on-year increase of 279.01 percent, surpassing its 2024 annual total delivery of 190,068 units.

Xpeng's goal is to double its delivery volume compared to 2024, and it now appears that this target should be easily achievable, positioning it as one of the few players in China's EV market capable of meeting annual sales targets.

The launch of the new P7 in China is expected to be in July-August, targeting the RMB 300,000 ($41,600) market.
