Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) officially unveiled the G7 electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) and began using its in-house autonomous driving chips in mass-produced vehicles.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker debuted the G7 at an event today and began its pre-sales, with a price tag of RMB 235,800 ($32,780).

This price falls between the G6 SUV and Xpeng's flagship SUV, the G9. The G6 currently has a starting price range of RMB 176,800 to RMB 198,800, while the G9 ranges from RMB 248,800 to RMB 278,800.

The G7 is a mid-size SUV with dimensions of 4,892 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

The model offers Max and Ultra variants, both built on an 800-volt high-voltage architecture. They come standard with a battery pack supporting 5C fast charging, both offering a CLTC range of 702 kilometers.

One of the G7's key selling points is that it is the first model to feature Xpeng's in-house developed Turing AI chip, with a single chip delivering the computing power equivalent to three mainstream autonomous driving chips.

The Ultra variant is equipped with three Turing AI chips developed by Xpeng, delivering an effective computing power of over 2,200 TOPS, making the G7 the world's first AI vehicle to achieve L3 computing power, according to Xpeng.

The three Turing AI chips can power both the smart driving large models and the cockpit large models, with AI computing power 26 times greater than that of other flagship models in the industry, meaning users will experience unprecedentedly smooth smart driving and instant cockpit responses, according to the company.

With the help of the Turing AI chip, the G7 also becomes the first model to feature Xpeng's VLM (Vision-Language Models) visual large model.

VLM can be seen as the AI brain that helps the vehicle understand the world, guiding the evolution of its assisted driving and intelligent cockpit capabilities, according to Xpeng.

Notably, the G7's Max variant comes standard with two Nvidia Orin-X autonomous driving chips, similar to other Xpeng models.

Another highlight of the G7 is that it is also the first model to feature the HUD (head-up display) system co-developed by Xpeng and Huawei.

Xpeng introduced the system at an event on June 5, which can project an 87-inch display area onto the windshield, showing information including driving assistance, speed, and road conditions.

The G7 is one of the latest highly competitive models in China's EV market and is expected to help Xpeng achieve higher sales.

Xpeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said in February that he was confident the company would double its sales in 2025.

The EV maker delivered 190,068 vehicles in 2024, and doubling its sales would mean a target of about 380,000 deliveries this year.

Achieving this delivery target seems feasible for Xpeng, as it delivered 33,525 vehicles in May, marking seven consecutive months of deliveries exceeding 30,000 units.

From January to May, Xpeng delivered 162,578 vehicles, representing a year-on-year increase of 293.08 percent.

The G7 is Xpeng's first all-new model this year. It launched updated versions of the G6 and G9 in March and the updated X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) in April.

In the third quarter, Xpeng will launch the new P7 electric sedan, targeting the RMB 300,000 market segment.
