Svolt Energy has seen its Thailand joint venture factory produce its 10,000th electric vehicle (EV) battery pack, marking a milestone for the Chinese battery giant's overseas operations.

The factory, located in Chonburi, was established as a joint venture between Svolt and Thailand's Banpu Next, and reached this milestone on June 30, according to a statement from the Chinese battery manufacturer.

The factory features two CTP & LCTP/HEV production lines integrated with digital systems, achieving a production line yield rate of 99.9 percent, Svolt said.

The production of the 10,000th EV battery pack marks a phased success in Svolt's strategic layout in the Southeast Asian market, said Chen Lei, general manager of Svolt's Thailand base.

The company is accelerating the construction of energy storage assembly production line in Thailand and plans to expand its light-duty power and energy storage businesses in Southeast Asia in the future, Chen said.

Svolt will also expand its cooperation scope to expand EV battery and battery energy storage solutions in the Asia-Pacific region, supporting local demand and regional supply chains, he said.

Svolt battery packs produced in Thailand are already being used in Great Wall Motor's Ora Good Cat, as well as hybrid models such as the Haval H6 and Tank 300.

Svolt was originally Great Wall Motor's power battery division, which began R&D on power batteries in 2012.

It spun off from Great Wall Motor in February 2018 and is dedicated to next-generation battery materials, cells, modules, packs, BMS, and energy storage technology.

The Thai factory began construction in July 2023 and saw its first battery pack roll off the production line in December of the same year.

In May, Svolt's battery installation volume in China reached 1.17 GWh, ranking ninth with a 2.04 percent market share, according to data from the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

Svolt has unveiled its Fengxing Short Blade Battery with a 6C charging multiplier, which it said can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 8.5 minutes.
