China's new energy vehicle (NEV) wholesale sales continued to grow last month, driven by strong performance from major players.
In June, China's passenger NEV wholesale sales are estimated to have reached 1.26 million units, up 29 percent year-on-year and up 3 percent month-on-month, according to a report released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
Driven by the government's trade-in incentive policy, some automakers performed exceptionally well in June, with NEV wholesale sales reaching record highs for companies including Leapmotor (HKG: 9863), Dongfeng Nissan, and GAC Toyota, the CPCA noted.
Great Wall Motor, Nio (NYSE: NIO), FAW Bestune, FAW Hongqi, and Changan Mazda also achieved their second-highest sales on record, the report said.
Additionally, many smaller automakers performed well, contributing to the overall increase in NEV sales, the CPCA noted.
In May, manufacturers with passenger NEV wholesale sales exceeding 10,000 units accounted for 90 percent of the month's total NEV wholesale sales.
These automakers are projected to sell 1.15 million units in June, and based on last month's structure, China's June passenger NEV wholesale sales are expected to reach 1.26 million units, according to the CPCA.
In the first half of the year, China's NEV wholesale sales are estimated to reach 6.47 million units, representing a year-on-year increase of 38 percent, according to the CPCA.
In China, NEVs include battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and fuel cell vehicles. The specific figures are expected to be released later this month.
Among the major automakers' NEV wholesale sales, BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) had 377,628 units, Geely 122,367 units, Changan Automobile 95,380 units, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) 71,599 units, and Chery 65,637 units.
Data released by BYD yesterday showed that it sold 382,585 NEVs in June, including 377,628 passenger NEVs and 4,957 commercial NEVs.
