Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has installed its first batch of the latest V4 Superchargers in China, as the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) market enters the MW-level ultra-fast charging era.
The first batch of Tesla V4 Superchargers are now operational and available to both Tesla and other EV brands, the US EV maker announced today on Weibo.
These latest Tesla Superchargers are available at seven Supercharger stations in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Gansu, and Chongqing, according to a poster.
More V4 Superchargers will be gradually rolled out in additional regions, Tesla said.
As of now, Tesla has opened over 2,100 Supercharging stations in the Chinese mainland, providing over 11,600 Supercharger stalls, according to data released on June 28.
Globally, Tesla's Supercharger stalls have surpassed 70,000.
Tesla launched its first V4 Supercharger in the US in October 2023, marking the company's fastest and highest-power EV charging equipment to date.
With the support of the V4 Cabinet, the Supercharger can achieve a maximum charging power of 500 kW.
Notably, electrification technology, including charging technology, is rapidly developing in China's EV market, with domestic players like BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) leading the industry into the 1-MW, or 1,000 kW, charging era.
BYD announced on March 17 a supercharger supporting up to 1-MW charging power, with a peak power output twice that of Tesla's V4.
BYD claimed its 1-MW charging station can add 2 kilometers of range to an EV in one second, or 400 kilometers in five minutes.
The company said at the time that it planned to build over 4,000 such facilities but did not specify a timeline.
Earlier this month, BYD announced partnerships with several companies to jointly build thousands of such ultra-fast charging facilities in China.
In addition to BYD, Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) and Huawei have also unveiled their own charging technologies with peak power exceeding 1 MW.
