Nio (NYSE: NIO) and Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) have reached an agreement to share charging facilities, marking a rare collaboration between two direct competitors.
On May 29, Nio's energy unit, Nio Power, and Zeekr's energy division, Zeekr Power, officially reached a cooperation agreement on charging facility interconnection, Nio announced today.
Nio will collaborate with Zeekr to provide users with a wide-ranging, efficient, and convenient charging service, according to the announcement.
Users of Nio's three brands -- Nio, Onvo, and Firefly -- can locate and use Zeekr Power's charging stations via their apps, in-car charging maps, and Nio's Jiadian app, enjoying a more convenient charging experience, the company said on Weibo.
Zeekr also shared the partnership on its official Weibo account, marking the 18th partner to join Nio's charging network.
Nio is the Chinese automaker with the most charging facilities, and its charging network has always been open to EVs from other brands. But this kind of partnership helps provide a better charging experience.
Previously, 17 brands, including Xiaomi EV, Chery, Dongfeng M-Hero, Huawei HIMA, FAW Hongqi, and GAC Energy, had already announced their integration into Nio's charging network.
As of now, Nio has 2,829 supercharging stations in China, providing 13,027 charging stalls, as well as 1,741 destination charging stations offering 13,281 chargers, according to data from its charging map.
The company's signature battery swap stations currently number 3,337, with 988 located along highways.
Zeekr also operates its own supercharging stations, currently totaling 1,580, according to data it released earlier this month.
It is worth noting that Geely Automobile Holdings (HKG: 0175) entered into a cooperation agreement with Nio Power in March 2024 on charging network connectivity, becoming the first automotive brand to announce its integration with Nio's charging network.
Geely Auto and Zeekr are both brands under the Geely Holding Group umbrella.
