Xiaomi EV, the electric vehicle (EV) unit of Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY), is building its flagship showroom in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, competing with Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) and Nio (NYSE: NIO) in the EV-friendly city.
Xiaomi EV recently signed a property lease with a subsidiary of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Group to set up a flagship showroom in the third phase of the Waigaoqiao Xin Park campus, according to an announcement by the Pudong New Area government on Saturday.
The project, which has a floor area of more than 15,000 square meters, is scheduled to officially open in October 2025.
It will be the largest Xiaomi EV flagship center in Shanghai and the EV maker's first delivery center in Pudong, according to the announcement.
The showroom, which is adjacent to the Porsche China training center and the Waigaoqiao Tesla Center, will have a full range of functions including vehicle displays, test rides, test drives, deliveries, and after-sales repairs, the announcement said.
Xiaomi EV will be the newest addition to Shanghai Waigaoqiao Automotive Industrial Park, which houses the world's largest Audi flagship center, China's largest all-in-one Tesla Center, China's largest BMW flagship center, and China's first Lincoln global flagship center.
In Shanghai, Xiaomi EV currently has a delivery center in Songjiang, in the western part of the city, as well as about 20 sales outlets.
Shanghai is one of the most EV-friendly Chinese mega-cities, offering free green license plates to consumers who buy battery electric vehicle (BEV) models. Consumers who want to register a conventional gasoline vehicle in the city, on the other hand, will need to go through an auction to obtain a blue license plate.
Xiaomi EV officially launched the SU7 electric sedan, its first model, on March 28, 2024, a competitor to the Tesla Model 3.
On February 27, Xiaomi launched the SU7 Ultra, the company's electric sedan with 1,548 Ps of maximum horsepower based on the regular SU7.
Xiaomi EV announced on May 1 that it delivered over 28,000 units in April, marking the seventh consecutive month it had seen monthly deliveries of over 20,000 units.
