• Firefly's interior is close in overall design style to Nio-branded models and uses a horizontal center screen.
  • Facelifted Nio-branded models will also switch to horizontal center screens.

A new spy photo has revealed the interior of the first model of Nio's (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Firefly, as the model is about two months away from launch.

The center screen is placed horizontally, like the Nio ET9 and Onvo L60, unlike the vertical screen layout in the existing Nio-branded models.

On February 8, Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li said in a live video that Nio would have new models or facelifts released in every quarter of the year starting in the second quarter, and that the facelifts would feature horizontal screens.

The latest spy shot shows the Firefly vehicle having a light-colored interior style and its steering wheel is also in line with the current design of Nio models.

Nio officially launched the Firefly brand at Nio Day 2024 on December 21 last year to challenge the BMW Mini as well as Mercedes-Benz's Smart with an eye on the global market.

Firefly's first model shares the sub-brand's name and is positioned as a premium boutique small car.

The battery electric vehicle (BEV) model went on pre-sales in China on December 21 at a price of RMB 148,800 yuan ($20,360), and is set to go on sale in April, Nio said at the time.

Nio has yet to reveal the interior of the Firefly model. A spy photo first revealed its interior last September, although details were limited at the time as the vehicle was in the engineering stage.

A month ago, the Firefly model entered a regulatory filing catalog with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), showing the five-seater's length, width and height at 4,003 mm, 1,781 mm and 1,557 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,615 mm.

It weighs 1,492 kilograms and supports a top speed of 150 kilometers per hour. It is powered by a single electric motor from Nio's electric motor division XPT with a peak power of 105 kW.

The Firefly model is equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from Sunwoda, according to the filing. This is the first time that Sunwoda is among Nio's suppliers.

The MIIT is expected to announce a regulatory catalog later this week, and some facelifted models from the Nio brand are expected to be included.
