BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Sealion 07 in Hungary, as the electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) becomes one of its main products in overseas markets.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced the move yesterday, saying the high-performance SUV will meet the diversified needs of local customers.

The Sealion 07 EV has been renamed the Sealion 7 in Hungary, as BYD has done in other overseas markets.

BYD is offering three variants of the model in Hungary -- Comfort, Design ADW, and Excellence AWD -- with a starting price of 2004,000 Hungarian forints ($51,260).

BYD launched its new battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology platform e-Platform 3.0 Evo in China on May 10, 2024, along with the first model based on the platform, the Sealion 07 EV.

The Sealion 07, a (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y competitor, has a starting price of RMB 189,800 ($26,090) in China, with deliveries beginning the same month as the launch.

Since last November, BYD has brought the Sealion 07 to a number of international markets, including Norway, Thailand and India.

In some markets, such as India, the Sealion 07 is available in Premium and Performance variants, the former being a single-motor rear-wheel-drive model the latter a dual-motor all-wheel-drive model.

Other models currently offered by BYD in Hungary include the Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, Seal U, Tang. The Atto 3 is known as the Yuan Plus in China and the Seal U is the Song Plus EV.

BYD currently sells vehicles in Hungary that are exported from China, and the company is building a passenger car plant in the country.

BYD signed a land pre-purchase agreement with the government of the city of Szeged on January 30, 2024 to build its first passenger car plant in Europe in Hungary.

The plant would be up and running in three years and would mainly produce passenger car models for sale in Europe, BYD said at the time.
