BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, an upgraded version of its battery electric vehicle (BEV) model platform, as well as the first model based on the new platform, the Sea Lion 07 EV.

The e-Platform 3.0 Evo boasts a higher level of integration, stronger powertrain and charging performance, the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant said at a launch event today.

The upgraded BEV platform features a 12-in-1 electric drive system, which improves integration over the 8-in-1 of the e-Platform 3.0.

The e-Platform 3.0 Evo supports motors that spin up to 23,000 rpm, which BYD said is the highest speed of those already in production.

BYD rolled out the Sea Lion 07 EV at today's event, a pure electric SUV that is the first model based on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo and will compete with 's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y.

The Sea Lion 07 EV has a starting price of RMB 189,800 ($26,270), and production vehicles have rolled off the assembly line at BYD's plant in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, with deliveries set to begin later this month.

The Sea Lion is a new product line that will become BYD's Ocean-array SUV model line, with the Sea Lion 07 EV being its first model.

The car is modeled after the Ocean X concept, with length, width and height of 4,830 mm, 1,925 mm and 1,620 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,930 mm.

The Sea Lion 07 EV is available in four options, including three single-motor rear-wheel-drive options and one dual-motor four-wheel-drive option, with starting prices of RMB 189,800, RMB 19,800, RMB 219,800, and RMB 239,800, respectively.

Its entry-level version is powered by an electric motor with peak power of 170 kW and peak torque of 380 Nm, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 7.3 seconds.

The entry-level variant is powered by a 71.8-kWh capacity lithium iron phosphate chemistry-based blade battery that delivers a CLTC range of 550 kilometers.

The two mid-priced variants have a more powerful single motor with 230 kW of peak power and 380 Nm of peak torque, both capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

Both variants are powered by a blade battery pack with a capacity of 80.64 kWh and both have a CLTC range of 610 kilometers.

The highest priced version has dual motors with a combined peak power of 390 kW and peak torque of 690 Nm, capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.2 seconds. The variant is powered by a blade battery with a capacity of 80.64 kWh and has a CLTC range of 550 kilometers.

All four options of the Sea Lion 07 EV can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 25 minutes, while the charging time from 80 percent to 100 percent is reduced to 18 minutes from the usual 30 minutes.

In extremely low temperatures, the Sea Lion 07 EV can reduce charging time by up to 40 percent, BYD said.

The Sea Lion 07 EV is powered by an electric motor that spins at up to 23,000 rpm and can reach a top speed of 225 km/h.

The model is equipped with the DiLink 100 cockpit system, DiPilot 100 driver assistance system, and the iTAC intelligent torque control system for better handling.

BYD is offering customers who order the Sea Lion 07 EV now a package that includes 0 percent down payment, a trade-in subsidy of up to RMB 16,000, and a free 7-kW home charging post and installation.
