BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Sealion 07 in India, bringing the electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) to more markets.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker introduced the model at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi on January 18, and has started accepting bookings, with local deliveries expected to begin in March.

The Sealion 07 EV has been rebranded as the Sealion 7 in India, the same way BYD does in other overseas markets.

Indian customers can book the model by paying 70,000 Indian rupees ($809), according to a BYD statement that did not mention specific prices.

The electric SUV is the fourth model offered by BYD in India, after previously launching the eMax 7, Seal, and Atto 3. The Atto 3 is known as the Yuan Plus in China.

The Sealion 07 EV is offered in India in two variants -- Premium and Performance, the former being a single-motor rear-wheel drive model the latter being a dual-motor all-wheel drive model.

It measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width and 1,620 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,930 mm.

The Premium version of the Sealion 07 EV is powered by an electric motor with peak power of 230 kW and peak torque of 380 Nm, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

The Performance version of the Sealion 07 EV has an additional front motor with 160 kW of peak power and 310 Nm of peak torque.

The combined peak power of the powertrain of the dual-motor variant is 390 kW and 690 Nm of peak torque, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

Both variants are powered by BYD blade batteries based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry with a capacity of 82.56 kWh. The Premium variant has an NEDC range of 567 kilometers while the Performance version is 542 kilometers.

BYD launched its new battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology platform, the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, in China on May 10, 2024, along with the first model based on the platform, the Sealion 07 EV.

The Sealion 07 EV, a (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y competitor, has a starting price of RMB 189,800 ($25,940) in China, with deliveries starting the same month as the launch.

In addition to the Sealion 07 EV, BYD also showcased the Song Plus DM-i in India -- rebranded locally as the Sealion 6 -- and the Yangwang U8 off-road SUV from ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang.

The Sealion 6 is the first plug-in hybrid product showcased by BYD in India and the first to feature BYD's signature DM-i technology, which offers a range of 1,092 kilometers on a full charge and a full tank, according to the company.

BYD will expand its dealer network in India to 40 locations by January 2025, the company said.
