Nio and Sinopec have entered into a charging services partnership agreement, after jointly building 279 charging and battery swap stations over the past three years.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) and Chinese fossil fuel giant Sinopec Group have reached an agreement on charging, after the two entered into a partnership to build battery swap stations several years ago.
Nio and Sinopec have entered into a charging service cooperation agreement on September 25, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today.
Based on the agreement, users can find and use Sinopec's nationwide charging stations on the Nio App, in-vehicle screens, and the Jiadian App developed by the EV maker.
The partnership will give users of Nio and its sub-brand Onvo more convenience in recharging their batteries for their National Day holiday trips, a statement from Nio said.
The upcoming National Day holiday in China is October 1-7. As part of the holiday schedule, September 29 and October 12 will be additional work days, even though they are weekends.
Sinopec, one of China's largest state-owned energy giants, has a partnership with Nio dating back to 2021.
On April 15, 2021, Nio and Sinopec signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly build charging and battery swap infrastructure.
At that time, the first Nio second-generation battery swap station was put into operation at a Sinopec gas station area in Beijing in the presence of both parties.
As of April 15, 2023, the two had worked together to build 102 battery swap stations over a two-year period, according to data previously announced by Nio.
To date, Nio has constructed 279 charging facilities with Sinopec, including 119 battery swap stations and 160 charging stations, covering 29 provincial administrations, the EV maker said today.
Nio has the most battery swap stations in China and is the local automaker with the most charging facilities.
As of today, Nio has 2,529 battery swap stations in China, of which 847 are located along highways, according to its charging map data.
It has 2,326 supercharging stations in China, providing 10,761 charging piles, and 1,643 destination charging stations, providing 12,684 charging piles.
Nio's charging map accesses 1,085,574 third-party charging piles.
