The BYD M6 has a starting price of around $24,700 in Thailand. The model went on sale in Indonesia in July.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the M6 in Thailand, giving the all-electric MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) another market entry after Indonesia.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker rolled out the model in Bangkok on September 9, offering two options in Thailand with starting prices of 829,900 baht ($24,700), and 929,900 baht, it announced yesterday.
The BYD M6 is powered by an electric motor with 204 horsepower and 310 Nm of maximum torque, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.6 seconds.
The model is powered by a blade battery pack with a capacity of 71.8 kWh and has an NEDC range of 530 kilometers.
The six-seater MPV measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,690 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.
The M6 will bring Thai families a new mobility experience and become a companion in their daily lives, said Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD's Asia Pacific automotive sales division.
The launch of the model marks BYD's further expansion of its strategic presence in the Southeast Asian market, the company said.
It is worth noting that BYD does not currently offer the M6 in its home market of China, where the company launched the now-discontinued fuel-powered M6 in July 2010 as its first MPV model.
On July 21, BYD launched the M6 in Indonesia, the first all-electric MPV for the local market.
In Thailand, BYD has a plant that went into production in July. The plant has an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles and is the first overseas passenger car plant wholly owned by BYD.
As of now, BYD's cumulative sales in Thailand exceed 50,000 vehicles with 117 sales outlets.
BYD ceased production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, switching to focus on the production of plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.
BYD sold 373,083 NEVs in August, up 35.97 percent year-on-year and up 8.97 percent from July, according to data it released on September 1.
In August, BYD sold 31,451 NEVs in overseas markets, up 25.69 percent year-on-year and up 4.79 percent from July.
