Jiyue CEO said the EV maker has entered into a strategic partnership with Nio on battery swap and will soon officially become part of Nio's battery swap alliance.
Jiyue, the electric vehicle (EV) maker created by Baidu in partnership with Geely Holding Group, will become a new member of the Nio-led battery swap alliance, after the two have already partnered on charging network sharing.
Jiyue and Nio have entered into a strategic partnership on battery swap, Joe Xia, CEO of the EV maker, said today.
The information has not yet been announced through official channels, but Jiyue is about to officially become part of Nio's battery swap alliance, Xia said, according to a video shared by Nio's founder, chairman, and CEO William Li on Weibo today.
Jiyue today launched the Jiyue 07 electric sedan in Beijing, its second model after the Jiyue 01. Li was present at the event to witness the launch of the model.
This means that Jiyue will become the eighth member of the Nio-led battery swap alliance after Changan Automobile, Geely Holding, Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), Chery, Lotus Technology, GAC Group and FAW Group.
There are no further details about the partnership, and official announcements are expected soon.
Previous announcements about new members of the battery swap alliance have all mentioned that Nio will work with these partners on the establishment of battery technology standards and the development of battery swap-enabled models.
Nio compares the battery swap service to a cloud service, and Li had repeatedly said that the service is now ready to be opened up to the entire industry.
As of today, Nio has 2,510 battery swap stations in China and has provided more than 52 million services.
The company also has one of the largest charging networks in China, with 2,340 supercharging stations currently providing 10,665 charging piles and 1,639 destination charging stations providing 12,616 chargers.
Jiyue announced on April 3 that it had entered into a formal charging network interconnection partnership with Nio to gradually access the latter's charging network in China.
On August 31, Jiyue announced that it was taking its charging partnership with Nio one step further, allowing its owners to start charging at some Nio charging stations by simply plugging in the charger.
