Changan Automobile's electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary Avatr Technology is offering a new version of the Avatr 11 SUV for a limited time this month, bringing the starting price down significantly.

The EV brand, backed by , and Changan, announced last night that it's launching the Avatr 11 "Smart Driving Model" at a starting price of RMB 250,000 yuan ($34,840).

A specification sheet on Avatr's website shows that the Avatr 11 is currently available in five versions, with starting prices of RMB 300,000, RMB 335,000, RMB 350,000, RMB 360,000 and RMB 390,000 respectively.

This new variant represents a RMB 50,000 ($6,970) reduction in the starting price.

It's worth noting that the new version is only available from March 1 to March 31. It's unclear if the model will continue to be offered in the coming months.

Avatr did not mention how the new, lower-priced model differs from the previously available model in terms of specifications.

Avatr was formerly known as Changan founded by Changan and Nio (NYSE: NIO) on July 10, 2018, when each party took a 50 percent stake.

However, with the introduction of new financing over the past few years, Nio's stake is now diluted to less than 1 percent.

The Avatr 11, Avatr's first model and the first premium car in China to come with Huawei Inside, Huawei's full-stack smart car solution, as standard, went on sale in August 2022.

On November 10, 2023, Avatr launched its second model, the Avatr 12 sedan.

Both Avatr 11 and Avatr 12 are battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and Avatr plans to launch extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models to target a larger market.

Avatr will launch two new models in 2024 and will have four EREVs to add to its production lineup, its president Chen Zhuo said in a video program in late December.

Avatr delivered 2,457 vehicles in February, down 65.19 percent from 7,059 in January, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The Avatr 11 delivered 1,057 units in February and the Avatr 12 delivered 1,400 units.
