Nio's (NYSE: NIO) first third-generation battery swap station in Europe has gone live, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today.

The battery swap station, located in Stockholm, Sweden, also offers Nio's latest 500-kW ultra-fast chargers, the company said.

As of August 17, Nio had 25 battery swap stations in Europe and 10 charging stations, according to the company.

Nio officially unveiled its third-generation battery swap station at the Nio Day 2022 event on December 24, 2022, capable of storing up to 21 battery packs, up from 13 in its predecessor and five in the first generation of the facility.

The third-generation battery swap station increases the capacity of a single station to 408 services per day, a 30 percent increase over the second generation, according to the company.

Nio vehicles can change batteries at the new stations in as little as 2 minutes and 30 seconds, 20 percent faster than the previous generation.

In addition to the third-generation battery swap station, Nio also unveiled its latest supercharger with up to 500 kW of power at Nio Day 2022.

Open to all brands of EVs, the ultra-fast charger is capable of delivering a maximum charging current of 660A, Nio said at the time.

If the vehicle is built on the 800 V platform, it can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in as little as 12 minutes. For a 400 V model, that time is 20 minutes.

On April 12, Nio's first 10 third-generation battery swap stations went live in 10 Chinese cities, and on April 17, the company's first 15 500-kW ultra-fast charging stations went into operation in China.

To date, Nio has 1,658 battery swap stations and 1,584 supercharging stations providing 7,710 supercharging piles in China.
