The Hyper SSR supercar has a maximum output of 1,225 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds.
GAC Aion, the new energy vehicle (NEV) subsidiary of GAC Group, has begun pre-production performance testing of its first supercar, which debuted in September.
GAC Aion's electric supercar Hyper SSR completed its first performance test in mid-December and officially entered the production validation phase, the company said yesterday.
The real-world performance test marks the substantial completion of the Hyper SSR's development and brings it one step closer to production and delivery, GAC Aion said.
The model features a highly integrated design with high-end silicon carbide chips that enable the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 1.9 seconds, the company said.
The Hyper SSR has a peak on-wheel torque of 12,000 Nm and a maximum output of 1,225 horsepower.
The high-end SiC chips used in the model are made of the same material as the new semiconductor material used in China's High Speed Rail, allowing for a 250 percent increase in operating frequency and an 80 percent reduction in power consumption, according to GAC Aion.
The car also features a traction control system with a forward feedback algorithm that allows the electronic stability system to predict vehicle dynamics and trajectory in advance and optimize them, it said.
On September 15, GAC Aion unveiled its new premium brand, Hyper, and its first model, the Hyper SSR supercar.
Powered by GAC Aion's in-house developed high-performance motors, the Hyper SSR boasts a maximum of 1,225 hp, 1.5 times the F1 race standard, it said at the time.
The supercar has a maximum on-wheel torque of 12,000 Nm, which delivers 1.7 G of acceleration, it said.
GAC Aion is offering two versions of the Hyper SSR, with the regular version priced at RMB 1.286 million ($184,000) for pre-sale and capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.3 seconds.
The other version, Hyper SSR Ultimate, is priced at RMB 1.686 million and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds.
GAC Aion said at the time that the model was the fastest accelerating car on the planet and would begin mass production and delivery in October of next year.
On December 21, local media Jiemian reported that GAC Aion is accelerating its efforts to bring the Hyper brand to market and that the brand will have a separate sales channel.
The brand's second model, the Hyper GT coupe, will debut at the Guangzhou auto show on December 30, according to the report.
In November, spy photos of the suspected Hyper GT coupe, which is expected to be priced at around RMB 300,000, were revealed on the Internet, the report noted.
