To ensure customers get their cars as early as possible, SAIC-GM-Wuling's new energy production line has gone all out to boost production capacity, with an entire vehicle rolling off the production line every 2 minutes on average, the company said Saturday.

The Hongguang Mini EV Macaron is an upgraded version of China's hottest-selling pure electric vehicle, the Hongguang Mini EV, with the upgraded exterior, interior, and features, and will be officially launched on April 8.

Pre-orders for the model began on March 26. The company said that in just five days it exceeded 23,000 orders. The new cars are now rolling off the production line and are being shipped to 4S dealership stores across the country.

Each Hongguang Mini EV Macaron has to go through several quality inspection processes, such as complete vehicle off-line inspection, functional item inspection rain test, road test inspection, and customer perception review, SAIC-GM-Wuling said Saturday.

Hongguang Mini EV Macaron is equipped with a remote key, EPS electronic power steering, hill assist, economy/sports mode, power windows, heating and cooling air conditioning, and reverse camera as standard.

The Hongguang Mini EV Macaron measures 2,920 x 1,493 x 1,621mm with a wheelbase of 1,940mm and has a 4-seat layout with 5/5 independent rear seats.

The Hongguang Mini EV Macaron continues to be powered by an electric motor with a maximum power of 20kW and a maximum torque of 85Nm.

It is available in two NEDC range versions of 120km and 170km.

The Hongguang Mini EV's guide price starts as low as RMB 28,800 yuan ($4,387), while the Hongguang Mini EV Macaron's price has not yet been announced.

As CnEVPost reported previously, Since its launch in July 2020, the Hongguang Mini EV has sold more than 150,000 units in a six-month period, making it the No. 1 selling new energy vehicle in China in 2020.

In January, 36,762 units of the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV were sold, making it the world's top monthly electric vehicle seller.

However, the Model 3 was the world's top-selling electric car in February, with January's winner, the Hongguang Mini EV, relegated to second place, according to data recently aggregated by ev-sales.blogspot.com.

The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV sold 20,167 units in February, 7,847 units below the Model 3.
