BYD will produce both generations of blade batteries, aiming to provide customers with more options and maintain pricing flexibility.

The Yangwang U7 will be the first to feature the second-generation blade battery, achieving a pure electric range of 1,006 kilometers.

Apple and BYD worked together around 2017 to develop a battery system using LFP cells, a technology designed to last longer and be safer than typical EV batteries at the time, according to Bloomberg.

BYD debuted its bus chassis technology platform using Blade Battery, which it calls the eBus Blade Platform, at the IAA Transportation 2022 event in Germany.

Tesla is a very successful company and BYD respects it and is friends with Elon Musk, a BYD executive said.

BYD's blade battery could enter India by being fitted in Toyota models, and the company is already recruiting for business related to it, local media said.

The partnership could involve the supply of tens of GWh of blade batteries.
