- Cumulative deliveries of the ES8 reached 69,688 units in the January-May period, accounting for 46.30% of Nio Inc's total deliveries.
- The ES8 is a rare new model in the Chinese market that maintains strong sales more than half a year after its launch.
Nio Inc's (NYSE: NIO) large electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) ES8 continued its strong performance in May, serving as a primary driver for the company's sustained monthly delivery growth.
The model delivered 11,475 units in May, surpassing the 10,000-unit mark for the seventh consecutive month, according to data released Monday by the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker.
This figure represents a 3,829.79% surge from the 292 units delivered in the same period last year. However, compared to the 13,028 units in April, May deliveries saw an 11.92% month-on-month decline.
This marks the second consecutive month of sequential decline for ES8 deliveries, though the model remains a rare new vehicle in the Chinese market to maintain robust sales more than half a year after the updated model's launch.
The robust sales of the third-generatation ES8 have provided crucial support to Nio Inc's overall performance. In May, the ES8 contributed 30.43% of Nio Inc's total deliveries of 37,705 units, data compiled by CnEVPost showed.
Looking solely at the main Nio brand's performance, the ES8 accounted for a massive 57.34% share of its 20,013 deliveries in May.
During the January to May period this year, cumulative deliveries of the ES8 reached 69,688 units, a 2,969.96% increase from the same period last year.
In the first five months of the year, the ES8 accounted for 46.30% of Nio Inc's total deliveries of 150,526 units, indicating the model's absolute core position within the company's product matrix.
The high-margin model, with a starting price of 406,800 yuan ($60,120), has also been a key factor driving Nio Inc's recent financial turnaround.
To date, the updated ES8 has been the best-selling large SUV priced above 400,000 yuan in China for five consecutive months, according to Nio.
On May 23, the updated ES8 reached its 110,000th delivery milestone, just one month after the model hit its 100,000-unit delivery record.
Boosted by the ES8's steady performance, Nio Inc delivered 37,705 vehicles in May, setting the company's highest single-month delivery record so far this year.
This strong monthly total delivery figure represents a 62.3% increase year-on-year, and a 28.44% sequential growth compared to April.
To further boost overall sales, Nio is relying on intensive new product launches. The higher-priced new flagship SUV, the Nio ES9, was officially launched on May 27.
The full-size SUV, which starts at 498,000 yuan including the battery pack, began nationwide deliveries in China the day after its launch.
