  • BYD's Datang SUV began pre-sales on April 24, with orders topping 100,000 units in the first two weeks.
  • The SUV's pre-sales prices start at 250,000 yuan ($36,870) and go up to 320,000 yuan.

BYD (HKEX: 1211) announced that the Datang, the first D-segment flagship sport utility vehicle (SUV) in its Dynasty lineup, will officially hit the market in mid-June, marking the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker's accelerated expansion in the premium segment.

Lu Tian, general manager of BYD's Dynasty lineup sales division, revealed the plan during an intelligent strategy launch event late on May 28, adding that a launch event will be held in Xi'an, Shaanxi province in northwestern China.

The model previously opened for pre-sales on April 24, the first day of the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, with pre-sales prices ranging from 250,000 yuan ($36,870) to 320,000 yuan.

The Datang quickly surpassed 30,000 orders within the first 24 hours of pre-sales, according to previously released data. Within two weeks of the pre-sales launch, total orders had already exceeded 100,000 units.

In terms of technical specifications, the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version of the Datang is equipped with BYD's latest second-generation Blade Battery. The model boasts a record-breaking maximum pure electric range of 950 kilometers, currently the longest range among large pure electric SUVs globally.

The vehicle adopts a comprehensive 1,000-volt high-voltage architecture. Paired with a 10C fast-charging battery and a 1,000-ampere charging current, the vehicle can achieve a peak charging power of up to 1,000 kilowatts.

The Datang offers multiple powertrain options, including single-motor and dual-motor four-wheel drive. The four-wheel-drive version can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.9 seconds.

The chassis system has also received a major upgrade. The new car is equipped with the DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension and a road preview system.

Additionally, the vehicle features a crab-walk mode and a rear-wheel steering system to significantly enhance handling flexibility.

The Datang measures 5,263 millimeters in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,790 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm.

The interior adopts a China-first 2+2+3 large seven-seat layout and is equipped with dual zero-gravity seats in the front row.

The SUV is powered by a 3-nanometer cockpit chip and features a 17.3-inch roof-mounted screen for the second row, along with a 27-speaker Devialet audio system, aimed at comprehensively elevating the overall sense of luxury.

In addition to the pure electric version, the Datang will also be available in a DM-i plug-in hybrid version, featuring a 1.5T engine with a maximum power of 115 kW and a drive motor with a peak power of up to 200 kW.

The strong pre-sales performance of the Datang SUV, coupled with the ramp-up in production capacity for BYD's second-generation Blade Battery, is expected to help the automaker achieve a further recovery in sales.

BYD's NEV sales in April stood at 321,123 units, down 15.51% year-on-year, marking the eighth consecutive month of year-on-year decline.

For the first four months of the year, the BYD group's cumulative sales totaled 1,021,586 units, a decrease of 26.02% from a year earlier.
