BYD's new sub-brand Linghui announced Thursday that it will officially launch its latest flagship C-segment sedan, the Linghui e9, on May 9.

The mid- to large-size pure electric sedan, designed for the commercial mobility services sector, is the independent brand's second product following the launch of the e7 model last month.

The Linghui e9 measures 4,995 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, according to its regulatory filings.

The model will offer fleet operators two different front-mounted single-motor power output versions: 135 kilowatts and 150 kilowatts.

Potential commercial clients can choose between pure electric range versions of 535 kilometers or 605 kilometers based on their needs.

The biggest highlight of the Linghui e9 sedan is the integration of BYD's latest second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology.

This highly optimized battery system allows the vehicle to rapidly replenish its charge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes, and it can be essentially fully charged to 97% within 9 minutes.

Even under extremely cold conditions of minus 30 degrees Celsius, the vehicle's ultra-fast charging time only takes about three minutes longer than the standard duration at regular room temperature.

The Linghui e9 is built on the platform of BYD's existing popular Han sedan, but with minor tweaks to its exterior details to accommodate specific operational requirements.

Establishing Linghui as a fleet-centric independent brand represents a major strategic move for BYD, as the company seeks to separate its massive ride-hailing business from its marquee brand.

The Shenzhen-based new energy vehicle (NEV) giant is expanding into the high-margin luxury car market, and using the same models for taxis could weigh on its premium image.

In addition to the e7 and e9, the brand previously filed for a pure electric sedan named the e5 and an M9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) with Chinese regulators.

BYD has filed four models under its Linghui sub-brand, all based on existing vehicles and featuring a new brand logo.
