- The new milestone comes just 120 days after BYD reached the production of its 15 millionth NEV.
- The milestone vehicle is the second-generation Denza D9, with its pre-sales starting price set at 389,800 yuan ($56,400).

BYD reached the milestone of its 16 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) rolling off the production line, marking another key moment for the Chinese auto giant.
The milestone vehicle is the first unit of the second-generation Denza D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), which the automaker announced had rolled off the line on Friday, April 17.
The new production record comes just 120 days after BYD produced its 15 millionth NEV on December 18, 2025.
The second-generation Denza D9 began pre-sales on March 29, offering a total of six different trim levels.
The pre-sales price of the updated model is set between 389,800 yuan ($57,130) and 489,800 yuan. Its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions share the same price under a unified pricing strategy.
The model is equipped with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and the latest fast-charging battery technology, enabling it to charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, while charging to 97% takes only nine minutes.
All second-generation Denza D9 models come standard with BYD's latest God's Eye 5.0 system, an advanced smart driving assistance system designed to meet the needs of modern business and family scenarios.
Meanwhile, Denza plans to provide a full roll-out of the God's Eye 5.0 update to older models, provided these older D9 vehicles are equipped with the God's Eye-B hardware version.
The Shenzhen-headquartered company has seen rapid growth in its NEV sales over the past few years, although growth has slowed this year.
BYD produced its first NEV model in December 2008 and did not see its one millionth NEV roll off the line until May 2021.
Since then, its pace on both the production and sales fronts has significantly accelerated.
The 10 millionth vehicle milestone was reached on November 18, 2024, and the gap between 10 million and 15 million vehicles was just 13 months.
