BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) will roll out longer range variants for four plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in its affordable Qin and Seal series to align with consumer preferences amid intense competition.
The company announced today that it will launch longer range trims for the Qin Plus DM-i, Qin L DM-i, Seal 05 DM-i, and Seal 06 DM-i, with battery ranges exceeding 210 kilometers. These models will be officially launched later this month.
This represents a doubling of battery range compared to comparable PHEV models, enabling a week's worth of usage on a single charge, BYD said.
With a full tank and fully charged battery, these models will achieve a combined range exceeding 2,110 km and can charge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
BYD said these four new variants will feature high-capacity blade batteries specifically designed for PHEVs, enhancing energy density.
They also incorporate an AI energy management system that helps double battery range while maintaining overall vehicle performance and weight, according to BYD.
The currently available Qin Plus DM-i comes in two versions, both starting at RMB 79,800. They are equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade batteries of 7.68-kWh and 15.8-kWh capacities, offering CLTC battery ranges of 55 km and 128 km respectively.
The Qin L DM-i offers two variants priced at RMB 96,800 and RMB 106,800 respectively. Both feature 15.87-kWh blade batteries with a CLTC range of 128 km.
The Seal 05 DM-i is available in a single variant starting at RMB 79,800. It features 15.87-kWh blade batteries with a CLTC range of 128 km.
The Seal 06 DM-i comes in two variants priced at RMB 96,800 and RMB 106,800 respectively. It features a 15.87-kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of 128 km.
The Qin series is currently BYD's best-selling model by monthly sales, with 60,667 units sold in December, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. The Seal series recorded sales of 44,602 units in December.
BYD is the world's largest new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, offering plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
By the end of 2025, cumulative sales of its PHEV models had surpassed 7.86 million units, the company said, adding that one in every two PHEVs sold in China comes from BYD.
