BYD NEV sales continue to decline in Dec while overseas sales hit new record

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) saw its new energy vehicle (NEV) sales continue to decline last month, while overseas sales hit a new high.

The company sold 420,398 NEVs in December, down 18.34 percent year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year decline, according to data released today.

This represents a 12.45 percent decrease from November's 480,186 units which was the highest monthly figure in 2025.

BYD's overseas sales reached 133,172 units in December, surpassing November's 131,935 units to set a new record. This marks a 133.01 percent year-on-year increase and a 0.94 percent month-on-month rise.

The company's NEVs include both passenger and commercial vehicles. Passenger NEVs sold 414,784 units in December, down 18.58 percent year-on-year and down 12.66 percent month-on-month.

Commercial NEVs sold 5,614 units in December, up 4.56 percent year-on-year and up 6.63 percent month-on-month.

Its passenger battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales in December were 190,712 units, down 8.19 percent year-on-year and down 19.71 percent month-on-month.

Passenger plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales were 224,072 units, falling 25.73 percent year-on-year -- the ninth consecutive month of year-on-year decline -- and decreasing 5.61 percent month-on-month.

Beyond being China's largest NEV manufacturer, BYD is also the country's second-largest power battery producer.

BYD's power battery and energy storage battery installations in December totaled about 27.352 GWh, up 16.42 percent year-on-year but down 1.15 percent from November.

In the fourth quarter, BYD sold 1,342,290 NEVs, down 11.94 percent year-on-year but up 20.47 percent from the third quarter.

Its passenger NEVs recorded fourth-quarter sales of 1,326,561 units, down 12.38 percent year-on-year but up 19.99 percent from the third quarter.

Commercial NEVs recorded the fourth quarter sales of 15,729 units, a 52.69 percent year-on-year increase and an 82.87 percent rise from the third quarter.

Passenger PHEVs totaled 2,288,709 units, down 7.91 percent year-on-year.

BYD sold 1,046,083 units overseas in 2025, marking a 150.74 percent year-on-year increase.

Its power battery and energy storage battery installations totaled about 285.634 GWh in 2025, up 46.70 percent year-on-year.

BYD registered 21,133 new vehicles in Europe in November, compared to Tesla's 22,801 units.
