- Xpeng delivered the first X9 MPV assembled in Indonesia to a local owner.
- Xpeng aims to have its sales and service network cover 70 percent of Indonesia's core urban centers by the end of this year.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has commenced localized production in Indonesia, marking its first such initiative in an overseas market.
The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker recently announced at the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International auto show (GIIAS 2025) that the first Xpeng X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) assembled in Indonesia has been delivered to a local owner.
Starting with Indonesia, Xpeng will officially launch its global localization production strategy, the company said in an announcement today.
Xpeng appears to have achieved local assembly in Indonesia through the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) approach, which is a trade-specific term referring to a production method where components are imported as disassembled kits from the country of origin and assembled locally.
In localization efforts involving disassembled component assembly, the CKD and SKD (Semi Knocked Down) models are typically employed.
In addition to the right-hand drive version of the X9, Xpeng also showcased its flying car, the G6 SUV (sport utility vehicle), and the humanoid robot Iron at GIIAS 2025.
Indonesia is the most populous country in Southeast Asia and the region's largest EV market, with strong demand for smart EVs, Xpeng said.
Localized production will significantly enhance Xpeng's responsiveness to local users and provide Indonesia with more customized smart EV solutions, the company said.
Xpeng aims to respond more swiftly to market demands and bring more innovative and future-oriented mobility solutions to Indonesian customers, said He Xiaopeng, the company's chairman and CEO.
The EV maker is accelerating the expansion of its sales and service network in Indonesia, with plans to prioritize the opening of experience centers in major cities such as Jakarta, Bali, and Java.
Xpeng aims to have its sales and service network cover 70 percent of Indonesia's core city centers and 85 percent of high-density areas by the end of this year, according to the company.
The X9 was first launched in China on January 1, 2024, and is Xpeng's first MPV model.
On April 15, the company launched the 2025 X9 in China, saying at the time that it planned to launch the MPV model in Europe in the second half of this year.
The 2025 X9 MPV currently available in China offers four variants, with starting prices of RMB 359,800 ($50,310), RMB 379,800, RMB 399,800, and RMB 419,800.
Xpeng began accepting pre-orders for the G6 and X9 in Indonesia on March 16. On June 26, Xpeng announced the launch of the right-hand drive version of the X9 in Indonesia, with a starting price of 900 million Indonesian rupiah ($60,780).
The X9 became the best-selling MPV in Hong Kong in June, demonstrating strong market competitiveness, Xpeng said today.
The company is confident that the X9 will become the best-selling premium pure electric MPV in the Asia-Pacific region in 2025, Mr. He said.
Xpeng plans to expand its international presence to more than 60 countries and regions this year and achieve 50 percent of its sales from overseas markets in the next 10 years, it said earlier.
Currently, Xpeng's business covers 46 countries and regions around the world, with cumulative global deliveries exceeding 800,000 units.
Correction: The starting price for the Xpeng X9 in Indonesia is 900 million Indonesian rupiah. A previous version incorrectly stated the price as 9.9 billion Indonesian rupiah.
