Xpeng launches X9 MPV in Indonesia, local assembly to begin in July

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has launched the X9 in Indonesia and expects to begin local assembly of the electric MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) next month.

The company announced today that the right-hand drive version of the X9 is now available in Indonesia, with a starting price of 9.9 billion Indonesian rupiah ($60,980).

The right-hand drive version of the X9 will begin local production in Jakarta in July, marking the official launch of Xpeng's first overseas localization production project in Indonesia, the company said on Weibo.

The X9 was first launched in China on January 1, 2024, and is Xpeng's first MPV model.

On April 15, the company launched the 2025 X9 MPV, saying at the time that it planned to roll out the MPV model in Europe by the second half of this year.

The 2025 X9 MPV currently available in China offers four variants, with starting prices of RMB 359,800 ($50,200), RMB 379,800, RMB 399,800, and RMB 419,800.

Xpeng began pre-sales for the G6 SUV (sport utility vehicle) and X9 MPV in Indonesia on March 16. The company announced at the time that it would begin localized production in Indonesia in the second half of 2025, making the country the first overseas market with an Xpeng factory.

As the most populous country in Southeast Asia and the region's largest automotive market, Indonesia holds significant potential, according to an Xpeng statement in March.

Indonesia plans to produce 400,000 electric vehicles by 2025 and increase this to 1 million by 2035, Xpeng previously said.

Xpeng aims to expand its international presence to over 60 countries and regions this year and achieve 50 percent of its sales from overseas markets within the next decade, it previously said.

Currently, Xpeng operates in over 30 international markets.

The X9 delivered 21,653 units in 2024, contributing 11.39 percent of Xpeng's annual delivery volume of 190,068, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Xpeng delivered 33,525 vehicles in May, representing a year-on-year increase of 230.43 percent, but a 4.34 percent decrease from April, according to data released on June 1.

The X9 delivered 3,227 vehicles in May, the second-highest monthly figure in history, trailing only the 3,946 units delivered in March 2024. This represents a year-on-year increase of 98.58 percent and a month-on-month increase of 35.36 percent.

From January to May this year, the X9 delivered 9,129 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 20.31 percent.
