Nio (NYSE: NIO) announced today that it will move its most important annual event, Nio Day, to the fall instead of the usual end of the year, partly to take advantage of the peak sales season in the fourth quarter.

Nio Day 2025 will be moved to this fall, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today, stating that this decision was made after consulting with community users.

This aligns with the delivery schedule of a key product in the fourth quarter, thereby enhancing the cost-effectiveness of the event, Nio said.

The company will launch its luxury three-row flagship SUV -- the third-generation ES8, Nio announced in a post on the Nio App.

The third-generation Nio ES8 entered the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's regulatory filing catalog last month, showing that it is larger than its predecessor.

The autumn season offers pleasant weather and greater flexibility in venue selection, Nio said.

Additionally, this timing avoids the Christmas period in December, giving overseas users a better chance to participate in the event, the company said.

Nio officially launched the recruitment of the Nio Day 2025 User Advisory Committee today to assist in preparing for the event.

This marks the first major adjustment to the timing of Nio Day in eight years, as the company begins to place greater emphasis on the cost-effectiveness of the event.

Last month, Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong hinted at the adjustment during an audio program, stating that he hoped to hear feedback from the community.

Nio Day is Nio's most important annual event, typically featuring the unveiling of new models and technologies.

The event is usually held on a Saturday in the second half of December each year, except for Nio Day 2020, which was postponed to January 2021 due to Covid-19 prevention measures.

Nio held its first Nio Day on December 16, 2017, in Beijing, where it unveiled its first mass-produced model, the ES8.

The most recent Nio Day 2024 was held in Guangzhou, where Nio officially launched the ET9 flagship sedan and the Firefly brand targeting the premium compact car market.

The next-generation Nio ES8 measures 5,280 mm in length, larger than its predecessor's 5,099 mm. It will debut in the fourth quarter.
