GAC Group's electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) brand Govy has unveiled its new flying car, the AirCab, as another automaker's flying car nears mass production.

Govy unveiled the AirCab at the Hong Kong auto show today and began its pre-sales, with an official guide price of no more than RMB 1.68 million ($233,900).

The Govy AirCab, developed in-house by GAC, is ready for mass production, the automotive giant said.

The eVTOL's fuselage is over 90 percent carbon fiber composite material. It has two seats, and supports L4 autonomous driving, according to GAC.

It is equipped with high-density cylindrical batteries capable of charging in 25 minutes. GAC did not disclose the range per charge.

The Govy AirCab will be used for low-altitude tourism and will begin demonstration operations in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area this year, said Su Qingpeng, head of GAC's flying car R&D and the Govy brand.

The AirCab has entered the airworthiness certification phase and will begin deliveries by the end of 2026, he added.

GAC officially launched the Govy brand on December 18, 2024, along with its first eVTOL product, the Govy Airjet, which is also showcased at the ongoing Hong Kong auto show.

The Govy Airjet eVTOL would begin airworthiness certification, production line construction, and pre-orders in 2025, GAC said in December last year.

GAC is one of the players in China's eVTOL market, which has been encouraged in recent years with the development of the so called low-altitude economy.

The only listed company in this field is Ehang, which has delivered hundreds of EH216-S eVTOLs.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV)'s flying car subsidiary, Xpeng Aeroht, has begun construction of its flying car manufacturing base, with the goal of achieving mass production and delivery in 2026.

Changan Automobile said in March that its flying car was expected to complete test flights by the end of this year.

On June 6, a senior executive from Chery said that the automaker would launch its first eVTOL flying car in October.
