Xpeng Aeroht's Production Certificate application for the flying body of its "Land Aircraft Carrier" flying car was accepted today by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) flying car unit announced.

This marks the beginning of the review of Xpeng Aeroht's mass-production system for flying car products by aviation authorities and is another important milestone for the company, it said.

The "Land Aircraft Carrier" flying car is a modular flying car consisting of a flying body, code-named X3-F, and a parent vehicle that can recharge the body.

On March 21, 2024, the Type Certificate application for the flying body was accepted by the CAAC.

Chinese civil aviation regulators will review the product and its components for design compliance and safety, Xpeng Aeroht said at the time.

The Type Certificate review has now entered the compliance confirmation phase, the company said today.

Xpeng Aeroht will actively cooperate with the Type Certificate and Production Certificate validation process in order to achieve the goal of starting mass production and delivery in 2026, it said.

Obtaining a Production Certificate means that an aircraft producer has established a production system and a quality system for aeronautical products that can ensure that the products are in a safe and usable condition, according to the company.

Currently, Xpeng Aeroht's flying car manufacturing base has seen the completion of the main body of the building for the final assembly shop, the paint shop, the joining shop, and the compounding shop, it said.

The mass production plant is currently 70 percent complete and is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter, Xpeng Aeroht said.

Referring to the example of Ehang, another player in the industry, after the Type Certificate and Production Certificate, Xpeng Aeroht still needs to obtain the Airworthiness Certificate and Air Operator Certificate before it can start fee-based commercial operations.

Xpeng has invited banks to pitch for a role in an IPO that could take place in Hong Kong or the US, according to Bloomberg.
