Changan Mazda, the joint venture brand between Changan Automobile and Mazda in China, seems to be seeing good acceptance for its new model, the EZ-60 SUV (sport utility vehicle).
As of May 16, the EZ-60 received more than 20,000 pre-orders, according to an announcement by Changan Mazda yesterday.
It's the fastest of the joint venture new energy SUVs in China to surpass 20,000 pre-orders, the company said.
The SUV was unveiled on the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 23 and began taking pre-orders, reaching 10,060 units in the first 48 hours, according to data Changan Mazda announced last month.
The EZ-60 is Changan Mazda's first new energy SUV and its second strategic model for the global market after the EZ-6 sedan.
The mid-size SUV is offered in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, similar to many of Changan's models.
The BEV version is powered by a single electric motor with a maximum power of 190 kW. The EREV variant additionally has an engine with a displacement of 1.5 L and maximum power of 70 kW.
The vehicle uses batteries supplied by CATL, CALB. Last week, CATL announced a new partnership with Changan Mazda to jointly build NEVs based on its CIIC (CATL Integrated Intelligent Chassis) skateboard chassis.
The official launch of the EZ-60 SUV is expected by the end of August, Changan Mazda previously said.
Mazda is already planning its third and fourth models with Changan, according to the joint venture.
