- The BYD e7 has a range of up to 520 kilometers and is expected to target corporate customers.
- The BYD e series was last updated in March 2024.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) will officially launch its new all-electric sedan e7 this Saturday, which is expected to focus on the shared mobility market.
The BYD e7 will be officially launched on May 17, the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker's general manager of the corporate business unit Wang Junbao said on Weibo today.
The information by Wang could mean that the midsize sedan is expected to target corporate customers.
BYD-branded models are mainly named after Chinese historical dynasties or sea creatures, with the e-series being the exception.
The last model update to the e-series was in March 2024, when BYD rolled out the e2 Glory Edition as one of the new models in the Oceal lineup.
The BYD e7 entered a regulatory catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in January, showing the model's length, width, and height at 4,780 mm, 1,900 mm, and 1,515 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
It is powered by a single electric motor with a peak power of 100 kW and supports a top speed of 150 kilometers per hour.
The BYD e7's battery pack comes in 48 kWh and 57.6 kWh options, capable of delivering CLTC ranges of 450 kilometers and 520 kilometers, respectively.
On March 28, BYD teased the e7 and shared several images of the sedan.
BYD ceased production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, switching to a focus on producing plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The company sold 380,089 NEVs in April, up 21.34 percent year-on-year and up 0.71 percent from March, according to data it released earlier this month.
That included 372,615 passenger NEVs and 7,474 commercial NEVs.
The BYD e2 sold 612 units in April, down 66.26 percent year-on-year but up 17.92 percent from March.
