Xiaomi has become a partner of the Nürburgring race track in Germany, as the Chinese smartphone giant builds its clout in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

Xiaomi has agreed on a partnership deal with the Nürburgring that will see the company become a premium partner of the world's longest permanent race track from now on, and will install advertising installations there, according to an announcement on the Nürburgring's website yesterday.

These include the new Xiaomi curve on the Grand Prix circuit and a new advertising installation on the Nordschleife.

Last October, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype completed its challenge at the Nürburgring with a lap time of 6:46.874, making it the fastest four-door car on the circuit.

The production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra was launched in China at the end of February this year, boasting 1,548 Ps of maximum horsepower and a starting price of RMB 529,900 ($73,130).

Yesterday, Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun said in a Weibo post that the production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is on a challenge at the Nürburgring track.

The latest agreement also marks the beginning of a deeper partnership between the two sides, according to the announcement on the Nürburgring's website.

"We are delighted that Xiaomi, a strong brand from Asia, is using the Nürburgring as an important development and communication platform," said Nürburgring CEO Christian Stephani.

Beyond the record-breaking drive, Xiaomi is now also a member of the test and development drives at the Nürburgring, the announcement said.

For 16 weeks every year, companies from the automotive and supplier industries test and develop vehicles and components here. Xiaomi is now advancing its vehicle development here as well, according to the announcement.

The new Xiaomi curve on the Grand Prix circuit is the flagship of the new collaboration.

This is curve 12 -- a fast, technically demanding left-hand curve. It follows the Michael Schumacher S or, if the shorter sprint version is driven, the Goodyear Spange, the announcement said.

The Xiaomi logo also appears on the Nordschleife. A large advertising installation has been erected on the bridges between the Aremberg and Fuchsröhre sections of the track.

Xiaomi's car-making arm Xiaomi EV officially launched the SU7 electric sedan, its first model, on March 28, 2024, with a starting price of RMB 215,900 yuan.

The SU7 is still selling hot a year after its launch, and customers ordering the model now have to wait about 40 weeks for delivery, longer than the about 30 weeks when it was first launched, according to CnEVPost's daily monitoring.

Xiaomi EV is targeting 350,000 vehicle deliveries in 2025, Lei announced on March 18 on Weibo.

Xiaomi EV delivered more than 28,000 units in April, its seventh consecutive month of more than 20,000 units, according to its May 1 announcement.
