Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will launch a faster-charging variant for the P7+ mid-to-large-size electric sedan at the 2025 Shanghai auto show, which starts in two days, in a bid to add to the appeal of the model, which has been on the market for less than six months.

The company will roll out the P7+ Ultra Long Range Max at the Shanghai auto show on April 23, He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of Xpeng, announced on Weibo today.

The variant is powered by a 5C AI battery that gets a 10-minute charge for a range that can be used for a one-month commute, said Mr. He.

"Xpeng will fully enter the 5C era in 2025, and the Xpeng P7+, which is a super spacious coupe, is no exception," he wrote in Chinese.

C refers to the battery's charging multiplier, and 5C means that the battery can theoretically be fully charged in one-fifth of an hour -- 12 minutes.

The P7+ will once again improve in charging speed and handling experience, further promoting the popularity of 5C supercharging, said Mr. He.

Xpeng launched the P7+ on November 7, 2024, offering three variants with starting prices of RMB 186,800 ($25,630), RMB 198,800, and RMB 218,800 respectively.

The electric sedan measures 5,056 mm in length, 1,937 mm in width and 1,512 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.

It comes standard with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs that support 3C charging and can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 20 minutes.

Xpeng launched updated versions of its G6 and G9 SUVs (sport utility vehicles) last month and its X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) last week.

All three updated models come standard with a battery pack that supports 5C charging with up to 530 kW of charging power and can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in as little as 12 minutes.

Xpeng delivered 33,205 vehicles in March, its fifth consecutive month of more than 30,000 units, according to figures released on April 1.

The P7+ delivered 8,545 vehicles in March, contributing 25.73 percent of Xpeng's monthly deliveries, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Xpeng delivered 94,008 vehicles in the first quarter, with the P7+ contributing 23,885, or 25.41 percent.
