Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) has filed for its first all-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), the Li i8, which is set to hit the market in July.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today released a new regulatory catalog for public comment, and the Li i8 is included.
The public can submit feedback between April 17-23. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.
The Li i8 has four pages in the catalog, all of which are six-seat, dual-motor models built at Li Auto's plants in Beijing, where the company is headquartered, and Changzhou, Jiangsu province.
The Li i8 measures 5,085 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,740 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,050 mm.
The dimensions are slightly smaller than Nio's (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Onvo's L90 electric SUV, which measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width and 1,766/1,786 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3, 110 mm.
The Li i8's curb weight is 2,580 kg or 2,610 kg and supports a top speed of 180 km/h.
The Li i8 uses only lithium ternary batteries from suppliers such as CATL (SHE: 300750) and Sunwoda, and information on battery capacity is not yet available.
The Li i8 is powered by dual electric motors, with the front motor peaking at 150 kW and the rear motor peaking at 250 kW.
Soon after MIIT's announcement, Li Auto shared official images of the Li i8, along with more information, on Weibo.
The Li i8 is a mid-to-large-size SUV and will come standard with lithium ternary batteries that supports 5C charging, Li Auto said.
At the time of the Li i8's launch, Li Auto will have more than 2,500 supercharging stations in China, the company said today.
Li Auto currently has 2,083 supercharging stations in China, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The Li i8 will come standard with next-generation LiDAR, which is smaller, lighter and more capable of detection, it said.
Li Auto is one of the major extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) players in China, and currently sells mainly L-series extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), including the Li L6, Li L7, Li L8, and Li L9, all of which are SUVs.
The Li Mega MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), which was launched on March 1, 2024, is Li Auto's first battery electric vehicle (BEV) model.
Li Auto will officially launch the updated Li Mega at the Shanghai auto show on April 23, with pre-sales having begun on March 21.
