(NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Onvo has filed for its second model, the L90, with the electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) a week away from being unveiled at the Shanghai auto show.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today released a new regulatory catalog for public comment, and the Onvo L90 is included.

The public can submit feedback between April 17-23. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.

The Onvo L90 in the catalog has two pages, including a single-motor version and a dual-motor version, and both are six-seat models.

It is available in two product model numbers -- NAL6513BSEVZ1 and NAL6513BSEVZ2 -- and will be manufactured at 299 Baita Road, Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone, Anhui, which is the location of Nio's F2 plant.

The Onvo L90 measures 5,145 mm, 1,998 mm, 1,766/1,786 mm in length, width and height, respectively, and has a wheelbase of 3,110 mm.

Its curb weight is between 2,250 kg and 2,385 kg, with the different figures likely due to its support for battery swap, which enables it to carry battery packs with different weights.

The battery electric vehicle (BEV) model supports a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour.

The Onvo L90 is powered by electric motors manufactured by Nio's electric motor division XPT, with the single-motor version getting a rear motor with a peak power of 340 kW and the dual-motor version having an additional front motor with a peak power of 100 kW.

Like Onvo's first model, the L60, the L90's battery is available in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells and Li-ion ternary options from (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), (SHE: 300750), and CALB.

The Onvo L90's filing pages don't mention the capacity of the battery pack, though Onvo president Shen Fei said on Weibo today that the new SUV will come standard with a battery pack with a capacity of 85 kWh.

This move will be different from what Onvo did with the L60, which came standard with a 60-kWh capacity battery pack, while the 85-kWh pack is an optional long-range battery pack.

This may be because the Onvo L90 is a mid to large-size SUV (sport utility vehicle) and the larger size will result in higher energy consumption.

The Onvo L60 measures 4,828 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width and 1,616 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. Its entry variant has a CLTC range of 555 kilometers.

The L90 will be Onvo's second model after the L60 mid-size SUV and will be its first model to be launched after Shen replaced Alan Ai as president of the Nio sub-brand.

Ai announced his departure on April 2, after the L60 has underperformed since its September 2024 launch.

The Onvo L90, which is aimed at large families, is set to be unveiled at the Shanghai auto show, which starts on April 23, with an official launch in the third quarter, Nio management previously said.

Shen Fei, head of Nio Power, replaces Ai as president of Onvo and reports to Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong.
