Nio (NYSE: NIO) saw battery swap services soar during the just-ended Chinese New Year break, as travel peaked.
During the travel rush near the end of the holiday on February 3, the company saw a record 136,720 battery swap services in a single day, it said today in a report on the operations of its energy unit, Nio Power.
On January 25, three days before the start of the Chinese New Year holiday, there were 119,848 battery swap services in a single day, according to the company.
January 28 to February 4 was China's just-passed Chinese New Year holiday, and at either end of the holiday period there is usually a peak in people's travel.
Between January 22 and February 5, Nio provided 1,716,746 battery swap services, a 44 percent increase year-on-year.
During this period, there were 12 days with more than 100,000 battery swap services in a single day, according to the company.
Between January 22 and February 5, Nio users traveled a cumulative total of 624,872,468 kilometers, which is the equivalent of circling Earth 15,592 times, it said.
A total of 1,888 users drove more than 5,000 kilometers during the period and 78,204 users drove more than 500 kilometers in a single day.
The Nio user who used the battery swap service the most accumulated 84 battery swaps.
During this period, Nio provided 21,903 battery upgrades and 11,233 Nio users shared their long-range battery packs.
The battery swap service is the preferred way for Nio users to recharge their vehicles. Between January 22 and February 5, about 83.2 percent of the power added by Nio users on the highway came from battery swap stations.
During this period, Nio's highway battery swap stations provided 446,259 battery swaps.
Three of the busiest battery swap stations along highways saw peak service counts of 183, 176 and 175 in a single day.
To cope with the increased demand, Nio temporarily added 538 battery packs to the battery swap stations along highways.
The average time it took users to place an order, queue up and complete the battery swap service was just 9 minutes and 16 seconds, which is 11.89 percent faster compared to last Chinese New Year break.
From January 22 to February 5, Nio provided 1,065,435 charging services, with more than 80 percent of the orders serving non-Nio users, such as users of 210 brands including Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), and Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI).
As of February 7, Nio has 3,107 battery swap stations in China, of which 964 are located along highways.
The company also has 25,436 charging piles and access to more than 1.19 million third-party charging piles in its charging map.
