BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has begun pre-sales of the Seal 05 DM-i hybrid sedan in China, its official unveiling of this new model in the Seal family.
Pre-sales of the Seal 05 DM-i with BYD's fifth-generation DM (Dual Mode) technology have officially begun with a starting price of RMB 89,800 ($12,250), the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced today on Weibo.
BYD's Weibo doesn't mention any more information, except for an image of the Seal 05 DM-i.
The company's website shows that there are three variants of the Seal 05 DM-i available for pre-sales, with starting prices of RMB 89,800, RMB 99,800 and RMB 109,800 respectively.
The addition of the Seal 05 DM-i will further complement the product layout of the BYD Ocean lineup in the family sedan market, said Zhang Zhuo, general manager of the Ocean lineup, on Weibo.
The model will complete the product lineup of the Seal family and meet the car needs of different users, he said.
The Seal 05 DM-i will be equipped with BYD's fifth-generation DM technology with ultra-low fuel consumption and long range, he added.
The model entered a regulatory catalog of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) last month, showing a length, width and height of 4,780 mm, 1,837 mm and 1,515 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,718 mm.
It is powered by an engine with a displacement of 1,498 ml and 74 kW. All versions of it are powered by a single motor with a peak power of 120 kW.
Prior to the Seal 05 DM-i, the BYD Seal family has the Seal 06 GT, 2025 Seal sedan, Seal 07 DM-i, and Seal 06 DM-i.
The first model in the Seal family is the all-electric Seal sedan, which initially went on sale on July 29, 2022, as a sedan to compete with Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model 3.
On August 8, 2024, BYD launched the 2025 Seal sedan, BYD's first LiDAR-equipped model, with a starting price of RMB 175,800 yuan.
The Seal 07 DM-i hybrid sedan was also launched at the same event with a starting price of RMB 139,800.
The Seal 06 DM-i hybrid sedan was launched on May 28, and is the first model in BYD's Ocean lineup to feature DM 5.0 hybrid technology, starting at RMB 99,800 yuan.
The Seal 06 GT, an all-electric hatchback, was launched on October 18, 2024, and is a production version of BYD's Ocean-M concept unveiled at the late April 2024 Beijing auto show.
With the addition of more models, the Seal family has become one of BYD's most important product families.
BYD sold a record 514,809 vehicles in December, with the Seal family contributing 8.92 percent with 45,937 units sold, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
For the full year 2024, BYD's NEV sales totaled 4,272,145, with the Seal family contributing 389,339 units, or 9.11 percent.
