Nio's battery swap stations have achieved coverage of nine horizontal highways, seven vertical highways and 12 urban clusters, fulfilling part of a goal announced two years ago.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) said its battery swap network has completed initial coverage of nine major horizontal highways in China, achieving part of a goal announced two years ago.
With the completion of the network's coverage of the G80 Guangzhou-Kunming highway, as well as the Zhejiang and Hunan sections of the Hangzhou-Ruili highway, Nio's battery swap stations have achieved coverage of 9 horizontal highways, 7 vertical highways, and 12 urban clusters, it announced today.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker today added seven battery swap stations in China, four of which are located along highways.
As of today, Nio has 2,609 battery swap stations in China, of which 871 are located along highways.
On July 6, 2022, Nio said at the second Nio Power Day event that it would build a battery swap network by 2025 covering nine vertical highways, nine horizontal highways and 19 urban clusters in China.
In August this year, Nio renamed Power Day as Power UP, after holding three previous editions of the event.
At the Power UP event on August 20, Nio unveiled its Power Up Counties program, with a goal of having its battery swap station network cover more than 2,300 counties by December 31, 2025 in 27 provincial administrative regions.
While the new targets were announced, its previous targets are still being implemented.
Nio will push ahead with the construction of battery swap stations along highways and continue to work towards its goal of completing a battery swap network covering nine vertical highways, nine horizontal highways and 19 urban clusters in China by 2025, it said today.
The company hoped to add 1,000 stations in China in 2024, though that goal may be delayed. So far this year, Nio has added 293 battery swap stations in China, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
On July 24, Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li hinted at a user event that the goal may be delayed by 1-2 months.
The EV maker seems to be focusing more on adding available battery swap stations for the Onvo sub-brand this year.
Last week, the number of available Onvo battery swap stations has increased by 71, including the addition of 18 new fourth-generation stations and the completion of renovations to 53 third-generation stations, Onvo president Alan Ai said in an October 28 Weibo post.
