Leapmotor delivered 30,305 vehicles in August, surpassing the 30,000 mark for the first time. Its new model C16 delivered more than 8,000 units in August.
Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker Leapmotor (HKG: 9863), backed by Stellantis NV, achieved record vehicle deliveries last month, with the new C16 model driving sales growth.
Leapmotor delivered a record 30,305 vehicles in August, the first time since the company's inception that it has seen more than 30,000 deliveries in a single month.
That was up 113.57 percent from 14,190 in the same month last year and up 37.17 percent from 22,093 in July.
The new model C16 SUV (sport utility vehicle) made a big contribution, delivering more than 8,000 units in August, according to the company.
So far this year, Leapmotor has 139,094 vehicles, up 90.47 percent year-on-year, data monitored by CnEVPost show.
At the end of August, Leapmotor had delivered 444,918 vehicles since its inception.
Leapmotor launched the C16 on June 28, and the six-seat SUV is available in battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, like its other C-Series models.
The Leapmotor C16 EREV is available in three options with a starting price of RMB 155,800 ($21,970), RMB 162,800 and RMB 179,800 respectively.
The EREV variant is priced at about half the price of Li Auto's (NASDAQ: LI) six-seat SUV, the Li L8.
The BEV variant of the Leapmotor C16 is also available in three options with starting prices of RMB 161,800, RMB 168,800, and RMB 185,800, respectively.
Leapmotor expected the C16 to deliver around 2,000 units in July and more than 5,000 units in August, the company said at the time of the C16's launch.
Leapmotor announced on July 16 that deliveries of the C16 had begun, and said on July 22 that orders for the model exceeded 10,000 units in its first month on the market.
Founded in 2015, Leapmotor was one of the first new car-making forces in China, and the company initially offered only BEV models, but unveiled plans to build EREV models in 2022.
The company is currently working with Stellantis, Europe's second-largest automaker by sales, to expand into overseas markets.
The B10, Leapmotor's first model based on a new platform, will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in the fourth quarter and is aimed at younger consumers, the company said today.
