Nio (NYSE: NIO) has added a new Nio House -- the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker's flagship showroom -- in the Netherlands as it pushes ahead with efforts to expand in Europe.

The Nio House in Amsterdam opened on May 23 local time, and Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li and co-founder and president Qin Lihong were present to witness the moment, according to a statement by the company overnight.

With eight floors and a total area of 2,768 square meters, the Nio House is Nio's largest in Europe to date. Nio's Nio Houses in China are usually two floors.

This is the first Nio House Nio has added in Europe since March of last year, bringing the total number of the facility in Europe to seven, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The Nio House is Nio's second in the Netherlands, after the first such facility in the region, located in Rotterdam, opened on March 23, 2023.

Nio Houses are Nio's flagship showrooms, which function to display and sell vehicles while providing Nio owners with a premium lifestyle space.

Over the past year, Nio has added several smaller experience centers and service centers in Europe, including one in the Netherlands and one in Denmark.

In its efforts in Europe, Nio is now aiming to move its entire service system, including battery swap stations, over there.

The company built the Nio Power Europe Plant in Hungary in 2022, its first overseas plant to produce battery swap stations.

As of now, Nio has 43 battery swap stations in Europe, 15 of which are located in Germany, data monitored by CnEVPost show. The company has 2,420 such stations in China so far.

In Europe, the uncertainty facing Chinese carmakers is increasing. On October 4, 2023, the European Commission officially launched an ant-subsidy investigation into EVs from China, making additional tariffs a threat.

Nio still plans to continue expanding in Europe, and many of the complaints raised by the EU do not make sense, Li said at the opening of Nio House in Amsterdam, according to Reuters.

Nio said it hopes to use the partnership to promote exchanges with local young scholars, apply for European research programs, and conduct joint product development and testing.
