BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) will launch the Sea Lion 07, a battery electric vehicle (BEV) that is the first model in its new Sea Lion lineup, in 2 days.

The launch of BYD's e-Platform 3.0 Evo, as well as the Sea Lion 07, will begin at 7 pm Beijing Time on May 10, the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced today.

The company didn't provide any further details, but the information it shared hints that the Sea Lion 07 will be built on the new e-Platform 3.0 Evo electric platform.

BYD's current BEVs are built on the regular e-Platform 3.0 platform. It's unclear what upgrades the e-Platform 3.0 Evo will bring.

The Sea Lion 07 is a coupe SUV with length, width and height of 4,830 mm, 1,925 mm and 1,620 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,930 mm, according to a previous regulatory filing.

The model was unveiled on the first day of the 2023 Guangzhou auto show on November 17, 2023, and is the first model in the Sea Lion series and the first mid-size all-electric SUV in BYD's Ocean range.

The vehicle has three pages in a catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), including two single-motor versions and one dual-motor version.

Its single-motor version has two motor options with maximum power of 170 kW and 230 kW, while the dual-motor version comes with a front motor with a maximum power of 160 kW and a rear motor with a maximum power of 230 kW.

The version with the 170-kW motor supports a top speed of 210 km/h, while the other versions have a top speed of 225 km/h.

The Sea Lion 07 BEV will be priced in the range of RMB 200,000 ($27,700) to RMB 260,000, Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD's Ocean series sales division, said on November 19 last year.

The Sea Lion 07 would go on sale and begin deliveries in the first half of 2024, Zhang said at the time.

The Sea Lion would become BYD's Ocean-array SUV model series, with the Sea Lion 05 debuting in 2024 and future models including the Sea Lion 06, Zhang said.

BYD sold 313,245 NEVs in April, up 48.96 percent year-on-year and up 3.57 percent from March, according to data it released on May 1.
