CATL remained the world's largest battery maker in January-March, while BYD returned to second place from third.

In January-March, total global battery consumption for EVs was 158.8 GWh, up 22.0 percent from 130.2 GWh in the same period last year, according to data released today by South Korean market researcher SNE Research.

CATL's installed battery volume in January-March was 60.1 GWh, up 31.9 percent from 45.6 GWh in the same period last year.

The Chinese power battery giant continues to rank first in the world with a 37.9 percent share and remains the only battery supplier in the world with a market share of more than 30 percent.

That's higher than its 35.0 percent share in the January-March 2023 period, but lower than its 38.4 percent share in the January-February 2024 period.

BYD's power battery installations were 22.7 GWh in January-March, up 11.9 percent from 20.3 GWh in the same period last year.

The company returned to second place in the January-March period with a 14.3 percent share, down from 15.6 percent a year ago but up from 13.1 percent in the January-February period.

South Korea's LG Energy Solution was second and BYD third in SNE Research's January-February ranking.

LG Energy Solution's installed power battery volume in January-March was 21.7 GWh, up 7.8 percent year-on-year.

The South Korean company ranked third in the January-March period with a 13.6 percent share, down from 15.4 percent a year earlier and lower than the 13.7 percent in the January-February period.

Japan's Panasonic was fourth with a 5.8 percent share, while South Korea's Samsung SDI and SK On were fifth and sixth with 5.3 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively.

China's CALB, Eve Energy, Gotion High-tech, and Svolt ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth, with shares of 4.0 percent, 2.3 percent, 2.1 percent, and 1.7 percent, respectively, in the January-March period.

Eve Energy, ranked ninth last month, overtook Gotion High-tech in the latest ranking.
