Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) will officially launch its new Li L6 model in 10 days, with the SUV (sport utility vehicle) expected to be the lowest-priced in the company's lineup.
The Li L6's launch event will begin at 8 pm Beijing Time on April 18, the company announced today on Weibo.
The model will be a five-seat luxury SUV built for families, Li Auto said, without providing further details.
Li Auto is China's best-known extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) maker, and its EREVs currently on sale are the Li L7, Li L8, and Li L9, which are the company's sales anchors.
On March 1, Li Auto launched the Li Mega MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle), its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) model. The MPV has a starting price of RMB 559,800 ($77,400), making it Li Auto's most expensive model currently on sale.
The Li L6 will be Li Auto's lowest priced. Currently its lowest priced model is the Li L7, which starts at RMB 301,800 for the 2023 Air version and RMB 319,800 for the 2024 Pro version.
On September 22, 2022, Li Auto said it would launch the Li L6, a mid-to-large-size five-seat SUV priced within RMB 300,000, its first mention of the model.
On April 6, Li Auto said the Li L6 is based on Li Auto's second-generation EREV platform, which took three years to develop and more than 2 billion yuan was invested in.
The launch of the upcoming Li L6 comes a week before the start of the Beijing auto show, and Li Auto may want to avoid drowning the model's buzz with too much new-car-release news at that time.
The 17th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2024) will take place from April 25 to May 4, 2024, and will mark the event's return after a four-year hiatus. The event was originally planned for April 21-April 30, 2022, but was canceled due to Covid concerns.
On January 15, the Li L6 appeared in a regulatory filing catalog showing the model measuring 4,925 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,735 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.
For comparison, the Li L7 has a length of 5,050 mm, a width of 1,995 mm, a height of 1,750 mm and a wheelbase of 3,005 mm.
Li Auto was originally targeting sales of 800,000 vehicles in 2024, but with the Li Mega falling short of expectations in its launch, that target will be difficult to meet.
Li Auto now expects to sell between 560,000 and 640,000 units for the full year 2024, down from the previous figure of 650,000 to 800,000 units, local media outlet Xchuxing said in a March 21 report, citing minutes from one of the company's meetings.
